On April 26, 1913, the Gamma chapter of Omicron Nu held its first meeting at Iowa State University becoming the third school with an Omicron Nu chapter. In 1990, the name was changed to Omicron Gamma chapter of Kappa Omicron Nu. The Omicron Gamma chapter started its centennial celebration during the 2013 Initiation Ceremony on April 14. 2013 with the Centennial banner being present. On April 20, 2013, the Omicron Gamma chapter continued with outreach in letting everyone know it was our Centennial year by having a booth, in the hall named for the Dean of Home Economics and first faculty advisor for the Gamma chapter, Catherine MacKay, at Iowa State’s spring festival, VEISHEA.
The display included household items that would have been common during the early 1900’s such as a 1906 hand quilted quilt (see image), water pitcher, cookbook, typewriter, and plate setting. The poster display portion included a photocopy of the first meeting minutes and the charter members names, pictures from more recent induction ceremonies, meetings, and community projects. Also on display was the original charter. The same booth was displayed on May 17, for Iowa State Alumni Days. During the VEISHEA celebration and Alumni Days, we had a book for members to sign and put where they are currently living. Most of the members that signed the book have been from Iowa. The same display will be used during Homecoming celebrations on November 9, 2013.
